On Urbanity
Urbanity is not kaartehan. It is not simply a protocol, but is actually an indispensable tool for educators. Teachers hold high reputation in the public; plus, students and other people look teachers as eminent members of the community. Therefore, it is essential that urbanity is being manifested by a teacher for him to sustain the kind of reputation that teaching profession has.
Because a teacher is seen as a person in authority, he should be a role
model both in dressing and in action. A teacher should be worthy of emulation.
It is said that charity is the ultimate reason for being urbane and refined with
others, because it promotes public good, and aids us to be refined in manner.
Sociologically speaking, if teachers were not urbane, expect that his students
and other people would be the same. They might become rowdy, boisterous, and
uncultured. Absolutely, urbanity is an expression of human fullness, and a way
on how to reveal God to others – character counts.
