On Catholicism, PAREF Education, Parents, and Marshmallow Test

1. On Catholicism

Pope Francis accentuated, “The most important subject we have to learn is love.” Indeed, with love, we can do things extraordinarily. Love is a force that connects humanity from God. Hence, it is fundamental that we call love as the most important subject. Through love, you could expect that things will go harmoniously. People will become cheerful, moral, and fulfilled. We can attain it by allowing ourselves first to be loved by God.

Catholic Religion is true. It is genuine because God aids us to believe. He does not mislead us. Our faith is rational for it is a historic fact that Jesus lived, and presented the Truth and Good. If Catholic Religion were not true, it would not continue to survive.

2. On PAREF Education

Education, for me, is a wonderful tool in aiding people to gain knowledge, and skills that they will be needing to think creatively, and critically. In a good say, education empowers people. The goals of education are to promote mutual understanding, and to reinforce cultural patrimony.

PAREF's goals in education are (1) holistic development of person, and (2) development of principled individuals who contribute to the common good of society.

(1) HOLISTIC DEVELOPMENT OF PERSON

Students must not be into academics only. They formation of students should encompass the aspects of their totality as a person: intellectual, cultural, aesthetic, spiritual, etc.

(2) DEVELOPMENT OF PRINCIPLED INDIVIDUALS WHO CONTRIBUTE TO THE COMMON GOOD OF SOCIETY.

It is fundamental that students become individuals who care not only for themselves, but also for others. They should strive not only in improving themselves, but also other people. It is the sincere intention of PAREF for them to have upright, useful, and fulfilled lives.

The goals are attained through demanding and balance curriculum in academics, sports, arts; personal and spiritual formations; mentoring system; formative activities for parents; and family activities.

As a PAREF teacher, I will use English for them to become better individuals. Since English is a flexible subject where I can integrate other subjects or topics, it will be easy for me to infuse values, and virtues to it. I will not only teach them the technicalities of the English language or tell stories, but also help them to become holistically developed individuals.

3. On Parents and Marshmallow Test

Home is the first school of children, and their parents, of course, are their first and foremost teachers. The formative activities happened first at home. They emulate their parents, and believe whatever the things their parents are telling to them.

The key message on Marshmallow Test is to master self-control. Parents should teach their children this very important virtue because they will need that at a later time in their life. If parents continue to spoon-feed their children with their gratifications without appropriate timing, probably, children may think the world is like that. It may result to their impatience, and other terrible consequences. They may easily surrender to hardships in life. The worst thing to happen is that they may kill themselves if they cannot get whatever the thing they like.
